Ephedra vs. Ephedrine
WHATS THE DIFFERENT ABOUT THEM

Ephedra is an evergreen shrub that grows in certain desert regions of Asia and currently in the United States. There are 40 species currently grown but only two are commonly used; Ephedra sinica and E. nevadensis. Ephedra is the plant source from which the alkaloids are extracted.

Ephedrine is the alkaloid that is extracted from the plant for its stimulant properties. Ephedrine is only one of six different types of alkaloids available in the ephedra plant species, but the most commonly applied in diet and weight loss. Ephedrine alkaloids are chemically similar to amphetamines serving as CNS stimulants to promote weight loss.
